Faces That Will Make You Smile

The picture above is one of my favorite pictures from my trip. I just adore everything about this picture. I asked her mom if I could take a picture of her daughter by signaling to my camera and pointing at her child and saying “May I?” She looked delighted and instantly started waving for her daughter to smile. After I took this shot, she put her hand on my shoulder, smiled and said “May I?” I didn’t understand exactly what she meant at first. This was obviously her kid and she certainly doesn’t need my permission to take pictures of her child. “Together,” she said, pointing at me first, and then the little girl. We posed together, fingers up in a peace sign… the standard pose here.

I wish I could have communicated more with her. I wish I could have asked her to send me a copy of the picture. I wish I could have taken more time and asked their names, heard their stories, told them I was honored to have shared that moment with them. More than anything I wish I would have thought to ask her to take the picture of us “together” with my camera too. But instead I have one perfect picture to remember this moment by forever.
