I’m surrounded by pilots. All the time. Pilots and pilot’s wives and pilot’s kids. This wouldn’t be the case at a base in the States, because we’d be surrounded by civilian families as well… but out here, our squadron is also our social network. The kids in our squadron all look up and wave when they hear planes overhead. It might be any of their dads flying that plane, so they all assume it must be theirs. Even when their dads are standing right next to them, they’ve been conditioned to wave at the sky. It’s adorable– especially in large groups.
One thing that is kind of cool about this flight line family we have developed out here, is that we are all in the same boat (er… plane??). All of our lives revolve around take off and landing times, weather and alerts. When Callie asked me to do the milestone photos of her son, we knew we wanted to incorporate a plane theme into each of the shoots in one way or another.
Here’s what we came up with for Rowen’s plane themed photo shoot.
In 2013, I quit my job and bought a one-way ticket to Thailand. After four months of backpacking I returned to the States and fell in love with a guy whose job sent us straight back to Asia. Nothing has gone according to plan... and it's been absolutely magical.
